Edits and Sounds in Aviator Scene

A variety of edits and sounds have been interpreted into the scene previewed in Aviator. The first sound edits that have been added into the scene is whilst Leonardo Di Caprio is entering the plane and preparing take off. The camera shots used in this scene only last a few short seconds to show the suspense of the moment. Quick camera shots and jump shots are then used again further into the scene when Leonardo no longer has any fuel, this is to help build the suspense of what is to occur next. Another edit used in the scene is when the plane enters into the clouds. As the plane flew further into the sky the shot became more exposed and faded to white. Sounds were also another factor used in this scene from Aviator. The sound effects used in this scene varied from loud to almost silent. When Leo was entering the plane music was included into the shot, although before he took off there was barely any noise used within the shot. Shots were the sound was loudest was when he was up in the sky and the plane ran out of fuel. Overall there was a variety of wonderful different edits and sounds used within the Aviator scene.

Mise-en-scene

Mise-en-scene and Setting Evaluation:

Briefly Describe the Setting/Location and the type of activity/ies would usually take place in this setting?

The location of the movie is set in Paris during the 1900’s. The setting is very dull consisting of dark colors and shades. As the film takes you through the streets you can see people doing activities such as walking around the streets and talking to others.
What props have been included in the setting to convey an intended message or describe the activity/ies taking place?
The typewriter has been a prop included in the setting to show the man typing a message about love. The typewriter edits have both a fast and slow pace to show the meaning of the letter. Other props used in the room are the desk, bed and dull curtains. These props show his life as boring and miserable.
What does the contrast (light levels, difference between dark or bright areas) indicate about this setting?

The contrast between lighting levels and dark and bright areas through out the scene indicates that there’s a difference between his past and his present. His past is shown in bright colors and lights while his past is shown by dark and dull colors. This is indicating that his past was a much happier time than his present.

What type of tones or colours are used within the setting; pleasant, simple, cheery, bleak. (Also consider the lighting).
The color tone used within the setting is very bleak. Dark and dull colors are used through out the whole scene. Other ways of describing the color tone used within the setting is miserable, unwelcoming and depressing.

Describe the spaciousness of this setting (Cramped or open/roomy).

The spaciousness of the setting is cramped. Although the setting may seem as though there is space, the darkness of the scene makes viewers think otherwise.

Describe the physical state (messy, neat, formal).

The physical state is messy and dirty. We can see this by the dirty props that are used within the setting.

What is the general atmosphere of this setting (what moods or feelings does it invoke)?

The general atmosphere within this setting is depressing and unwelcoming. This mood is given off by the dark colors and little light used within the setting.
Describe the acting style of the characters within this setting?

Mise en scene

The genre of horror has been shown in this movie using mise en scene. Props and costumes are the main points that created the genre of horror more obvious. Things such as fog, shovels, axes, dead bodies, blood and guns. Props like theses have made it easier for the viewer to see what the genre is. The blood was defiantly one of the main props that helped to make the genre more obvious, this being because blood is not used in many other genre films. The dead body parts was also another factor that helped to the genre. movies of other genres generally don't have dead body parts in them. The directors use of having it set in an isolated woods made the genre much better to the audience to understand that this was obviously not a joyful film. Another factor that helped to the genre, was the use of shadow and dark lighting. this helped to give the scene more suspense. overall the director has made good use of props and costumes for the mise en scene to help show the audience the genre of horror.

Two days later have her maid drop her off at a cabin in the ghetto and leave straight away. Have her ask him why, have him not reply, have her ask him again and then run into the bathroom and locks the door. Have the coach banging on the door and trying to get in, have the girl climb out a small window and run into the forestry behind the cabin. Then have the coach chase after her and have her hide behind a tree, have this cat and mouse game happen a couple of times until a homeless black guy hear what’s going on and run into the woods. Have the token black guy come across the coach trying to tie the girl up and save her. Have the token black guy take the girl to hospital and have the police go to the cabin to find that the coach has hung himself. Have the little girl survive and have her mum give the homeless token black guy some money to find somewhere to live. Have them all live happily ever after with a great life.
